BYRON CENTER — Hot shooting and some solid defense in the latter stages of the game sparked the Muskegon Catholic Crusaders on Tuesday night.
 
The result was a 47-42 victory over Zion Christian.
 
MCC raced to a 16-11 lead after one quarter, but Zion Christian turned the tables in the second quarter and tied the game at 27-all at the half.
 
Zion Christian had a slim 34-31 lead after three quarters. The Crusader offense and defense came alive in the final quarter and outscored Zion 16-8.
 
“We played an incredible fourth quarter,” Crusader coach Rob Recknagel said. “We did an excellent job finishing plays and making shots when it counted. I was extremely proud of junior twins Owen and Jacob Lyonnais who came up huge to help us win when it mattered.”
 
Owen Lyonnais led the way for MCC with 12 points, including eight in the pivotal fourth quarter. Braden Gustin had 11 points. Jacob Lyonnais had six points and seven rebounds. Finn Maschino had six points and six rebounds. Bryan Convertini was lauded for his effort on defense in the second half.
 
Muskegon Catholic (6-8, 1-2) travels to Grand Rapids West Michigan Aviation Academy on Friday.
