GRAND RAPIDS – The Spring Lake boys swimming and diving team couldn’t outlast the reigning Division 3 state champion, East Grand Rapids, on Thursday evening.

The Lakers fell to the Pioneers, 106-67.

“I’m sure I sound like a broken record every year we travel to swim against East Grand Rapids, but it continues to be a privilege to compete against the perennial Division 3 powerhouse in both swimming and diving,” said Spring Lake coach Nick Zacek. “Getting the chance to tune up some races with the best in the state is a great opportunity.”

Noah Fletcher, Kyle Eacker, Tomas Ruiz and Johnny Wachter were MHSAA state qualifiers in the 200 free relay.

Jonah VanDreumel earned a fourth-place finish in diving.

Lando Mendoza posted a personal best in the 100 breast by 5.08 seconds.

Alex Strauss set personal records in the 50 free and 500 free by 0.57 seconds and 8.11 seconds, respectively.

Spring Lake will be at the Division 3 Mid-Season Invitational on Saturday. The competition will be at the Holland Aquatic Center.
