RAVENNA — Mason County Central overwhelmed Ravenna, 56-17 in a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division girls’ basketball game at Ravenna on Friday night.

The Spartans ran out to an 11-0 lead and kept their foot on the gas, finishing the first half with a whopping 40-13 lead.

Most of the early damage was done by Spartan senior Wren Nelson, who scored 16 points in the first two quarters and finished with 22 on the night.

In addition, Nelson gathered in 10 rebounds and was a defensive presence with four blocks.

“We’ve been talking a lot about being better at the beginning of games, and I was happy with how we started tonight,” Spartan coach Brian Beebe said. “Our starters played very unselfishly and we got the job done on the road.”

Junior guard Mallory Miller also contributed 15 points, dished out five assists and picked off three steals for the Spartans. Senior Grace Weinert added five points, dished out four assists, had three steals and one block. Eva Hradel scored seven first-half points.

Mason County moved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the conference. The Spartans have a cross-over game at inter-county rival Ludington on Monday night.
