MONTAGUE – The Montague girls wrestling team secured a second-place finish at the Lady Mat Cat Showcase on Friday.

“These girls impress me every week,” said Montague coach Kristoffer Maddox. “Having only six wrestlers scoring team points today and placing second behind Whitmore Prescott’s 14 really is an example at the level of wrestling these girls are displaying.

“They also avenged a loss to Hasting in the first meet of the year by placing ahead of them.”

Savannah Winkleblack used her flexibility and ability to control her matches and came away with a first-place spot. Abby Thommen took down higher ranked competitors and claimed a second-place finish.

Reid Tommen and Emma Pendell also added second-place finishes for the Wildcats. Ava Pelton finished third and Tisha Beckman was fourth. Zaniya Meza contributed with a 1-2 record on the day.

Montague will travel to Grand Rapids Northview on Saturday, Jan. 13.
