MANISTEE — Mason County Eastern’s girls basketball team continued its struggles this season Wednesday night in the West Michigan D League, falling to Manistee Catholic Central 62-13 in Manistee.

It’s been difficult for the Cardinals as Coach Jake Smith has spent the entire season experimenting and alternating starting lineups with some underclassmen.

The Sabers, who have been playing several middle schoolers, got the best of the Cardinals on this night, taking a 10-6 lead in the first quarter and 11-2 in the second in building a 21-8 at the half.

Eastern was outscored 21-13 in the second half.

Brailyn Johnson led the Cardinals with five points.

Now 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the league, the Cardinals next travel to Walkerville for another league contest Friday night.
