UNIVERSITY CENTER – The start of the second half of conference play did not turn out the way the Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks had hoped.
In a tight game that was decided in the final seconds, Delta Community College walked off their home court with a 69-68 victory.
“The close games always hurt more,” said Jayhawk coach Jason Cooper. “We just didn’t have our ‘A’ game tonight. We will learn from this and get better.”
Ty’veonna Davis poured in 37 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Maiya Hill had 10 points. Ali Phillips added nine points, Gaby Reeve had six points and seven rebounds and Remi Sponseller had four points, four rebounds and four assists.
MCC (11-10, 5-3) trailed 22-12 after one quarter and 35-26 at the half. After three quarters, Delta led 51-42.
The Jayhawks were down two players due to injuries from the weekend, but were prepared going into the matchup. However, the night got off to a rough start and the Jayhawks couldn’t seem to get the momentum until well into the final quarter, but at that point it was too late.
Delta is now 3-11, 2-5 in the conference.
The Jayhawks will host Alpena at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.
