The Spring Lake girls’ lacrosse team opened the season with a 17-3 victory over Mona Shores on Wednesday.

Reese Smith paced the Sailors with two goals while Cambree Bowen added one.

Freshman goaltender Ansley Heyward stopped seven shots faced and Lainee Carmean chipped in with an assist.

“Despite the score, we played very well against a team that should make a state title run,” said Sailor coach Chip Vasquez. “We are a young talented team, with 10 starters being underclassmen. I was very pleased with how we played. We will win our share of games this year and challenge for a conference championship in Tier II.”

Mona Shores will face Grandville in its next contest on the road on Monday.
