SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central won both of its West Michigan Conference Rivers Division games with Shelby at Spartan Field Tuesday, 17-0 and 17-2.

The Spartans needed only three innings to overwhelm the Tigers, as sophomore hurler Aubrey Chye threw a no-hitter and walked five.

Emily Adams, Aylin Davila, Grace Weinert, Riley Mast, Mikaylah McVicker, Madi Sherretz and Ellie Bendele each had a hit for the Spartans.

Game 2 saw the Spartans again send Chye out to the pitcher’s circle and she allowed two runs, only one earned, and scattered three hits.

The same batters had hits, with Bendele knocking out a double and triple to lead the way.

“It was good to see this team play together, top to bottom,” said Spartan coach Jonathan Blake. “They sprayed the outfield with hits, had solid base running, good fielding and kept the mistakes to a minimum.

“Shelby is a young team and struggled a bit, but this Spartan team came to play and it showed.”

Now 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in the conference, the Spartans are at home again at 4 p.m. Thursday when they play Newaygo.
