The pitching did not allow and run and the defense did not commit an error for the Hart Pirate baseball team on Friday.

That combination led the Pirates to a doubleheader sweep over Western Michigan Christian. Hart won the opener, 1-0, and the nightcap, 3-0.

In the opener, Blake Weirich pitched a complete game. He scattered four hits and struck out nine.

The game’s lone run came in the fourth inning when Ty Schlukebir drew a one-out walk. One out later, Carter Ramseyer reached on an error. Schlukebir scored on a hit by Aiden Coker.

Max Miller pitched six strong innings for WMC with seven strikeouts.

In the nightcap, it was Schlukebir’s turn to dominate on the mound. He pitched a complete game and allowed just a first-inning hit. He walked two and struck out seven.

Mitchell Slade belted a solo home run, and later, Weirich hit a two-run homer to account for all the runs in the game.

Hart is now 6-6 on the season.
