The Muskegon Catholic Central girls basketball team used a strong second half to overcome a deficit and beat Holland Black River 39-31 on Friday in a non-conference tilt.

MCC trailed 10-9 after one quarter and 18-14 at halftime, but took the lead in the third quarter and led 28-22 heading into the fourth.

Muskegon Catholic was led by Erin LaVigne with 16 points, four steals and four assists and McKenna Gentry with 15 points, four steals and three assists. 

MCC is now 2-2 on the season.

LAKES 8 

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 75, MANISTEE 13 – Taylor Folkema scored 30 points for the Warriors to lead the team to victory, and reached the 1,000 point mark in her varsity career.

Kyla Wiersema put up a double-double for Western Michigan Christian with 18 points and 16 rebounds.

The Warriors led 19-2 after the first quarter, 36-6 at the half, and 57-10 at the end of the third.

WMC is now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

CSAA

KENT CITY 79, HOLTON 9 – The high-flying Eagles held the Red Devils without a point in the first half and led 46-0 at the break.

Four Kent City girls scored in double figures. Kenzie Bowers had 26 points, Jenna Harrison scored 16, while Lexie Bowers and Kierra Flegel had 12 apiece.

Bowers went over the 1,500 point mark for her career while Harrison eclipsed the 1,000 point mark.

Abbie Fowler paced Holton with five points.

Kent City is now 5-0 overall and 3-0 in CSAA Silver play.

TRI-COUNTY 51, FREMONT 48 – Calla Miller put up 30 points for the Packers, but it was not enough to overtake the Vikings.

Tri-County led 9-4 after the first quarter, tied the game 21-21 at the half following a Fremont lead, and took back the lead 34-29 after three quarters.

MORLEY STANWOOD 39, HESPERIA 29 – The game started out quietly, with Hesperia taking a 8-6 lead after the first quarter.

At halftime, the Panthers still held a 16-15 lead due to a stingy defensive effort.

The game unraveled for Hesperia  third quarter, with Morley Stanwood going on an 18-4 run to take a 33-20 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Hesperia fought back but could not overcome the deficit,

For Hesperia, Emily Bayle led the charge with 16 points, six rebounds and four steals.

The loss puts Hesperia at 0-3 overall as well as in the CSAA Silver.

O-K BLUE CONFERENCE

HAMILTON 54, SPRING LAKE 39 – AJ Ediger scored 34 points to lead the Hawkeyes over Spring Lake .

Hamilton had a 20-15 at the end of the opening stanza, led 31-21 at halftime and had a 43-29 advantage through three quarters.

Jennifer Judge led Spring Lake with 19 points while Zoe Walters added six. Meah Bait chipped in with four points and four assists.

The Lakers are now 1-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.

O-K RED CONFERENCE

ROCKFORD 36, GRAND HAVEN 29  (OT)– The Buccaneers lost in overtime after leading through three quarters of the game.

Grand Haven led 7-0 after the first quarter, 13-4 at halftime and 22-10 in the third.

Rockford tied the game at 25-25 in the fourth to send the game to overtime, and outscored the Bucs by a 11-4 margin during the extra stanza.

Molly Long led the Buccaneers with eight points and eight rebounds, followed by Zoe Spoelman with six points and seven rebounds and Alyssa Hatzel with six points.

Grand Haven is now 0-3 overall on the season.
