GRAND HAVEN – The Montague boys basketball team fell to a sharp-shooting Holland squad at the Lake Michigan Cup on Saturday. In the end, the Wildcats fell, 73-50.

“I am proud of our guys for accepting this challenge over the holiday break,” said coach Nick Thaler.

The Wildcats were down just one point after the first quarter before Holland found a rhythm and pulled ahead with a total of 13 three-point baskets.

Owen Raeth was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 19 points and six rebounds. Paul Olson chipped in nine points and four rebounds, while Jack Degen had six points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.

“We have played nine games so far, and it’s not even January yet,” said Thaler. “Thirteen games spread out over the next two months will help us get into a routine and further create our identity.”

Montague (5-4, 1-3) will travel to Fremont for WMC-Lakes play on Friday.
